Rainbow Birds

Available professionally framed in White, Black, Natural, Gold, or Brown timber frames, or as a Stretched Ready-to-Hang Canvas.

Charming watercolor painted in 2021. I was delighted by the whimsical idea of five plump little birds perched companionably on a branch, each one a different jewel tone from the rainbow spectrum. Using soft, flowing watercolor washes, I created these rotund feathered friends in turquoise, coral, lime green, warm amber, and soft purple their simplified forms and gentle expressions radiating contentment and harmony. The loose, spontaneous technique captures the joy and lightness of birds gathering together, celebrating diversity in unity.

Did you know?

Throughout history, birds gathering in groups have symbolized community, family, and the strength found in togetherness. The concept of "birds of a feather flock together" dates back to the 16th century, though ironically, this painting celebrates the opposite different "feathers" coming together in harmony. In many Indigenous cultures, birds are messengers between earth and sky, carrying prayers upward and bringing divine guidance downward. Rainbow symbolism appears across virtually every culture from the Biblical covenant to Aboriginal Dreamtime serpents to Buddhist enlightenment.

Each color in this rainbow carries specific symbolism: blue represents peace and communication, red/coral embodies passion and vitality, green signifies growth and healing, orange/amber radiates creativity and joy, while purple symbolizes spiritual wisdom and transformation. In feng shui, birds represent opportunity, freedom, and joy entering one's life. The Chinese believe birds bring good news and happiness. The number five holds mystical significance across traditions five elements, five senses, five fingers representing humanity's complete sensory experience and balance.

Symbolism includes: Harmony in diversity, community, joy, lightheartedness, unity, colorful expression, friendship across differences, spiritual messages, celebration of individuality, and collective strength.
