Description
xAvailable professionally framed in White, Black, Natural, Gold, or Brown timber frames, or as a Stretched Ready-to-Hang Canvas.
Majestic watercolor portrait painted in 2022. I was captivated by the commanding presence and dignified gaze of the lion, the undisputed king of beasts. Using layered watercolor washes in rich golds, burnt siennas, and warm ambers, I captured the magnificent texture of his flowing mane and the penetrating intelligence in those golden eyes. The loose, expressive edges of the mane create movement and energy, while the carefully rendered facial features convey both power and a surprising gentleness the duality that makes lions so fascinating.
Did you know?
Lions have been revered throughout human history for over 30,000 years, appearing in cave paintings, royal crests, and sacred texts across nearly every civilization. In ancient Egypt, the lion-headed goddess Sekhmet represented both fierce protection and healing power. The Sphinx, with a lion's body and human head, symbolized wisdom combined with strength. In Hindu tradition, the goddess Durga rides a lion, while Vishnu's avatar Narasimha is half-lion, half-man representing divine courage that destroys evil.
The lion is featured in more national flags and coats of arms than any other animal, symbolizing sovereignty, justice, and valorous leadership. In astrology, Leo the Lion represents confidence, creativity, and generous spirit. A male lion's mane serves not just for protection but as a visual signal of health and strength. Despite their fearsome reputation, lions are deeply social, living in prides with strong family bonds the only cats to do so.
Symbolism includes: Courage, strength, leadership, royalty, pride, protection, solar energy, dignity, family bonds, noble heart, and righteous power.
As Spirit Guide: Encourages bold leadership with a noble heart, fierce protection of loved ones, and standing in your power with dignity and grace.
In Dreams: Suggests awakening personal power, need for courageous action, or embracing leadership roles. May indicate protecting what's yours or stepping into your regal self.
