Dove

Available professionally framed in White, Black, Natural, Gold, or Brown timber frames, or as a Stretched Ready-to-Hang Canvas.

Textural acrylic painting with palette knife impasto technique, created in 2026. I was moved by the gentle presence of a dove perched on weathered timber post and placed her against a rich burnt orange sky reminiscent of the sunset that day. Using thick, sculptural brushstrokes and layered paint application, I captured the soft pearl and lavender tones of the dove's plumage, each feather suggested through deliberate marks and texture. The vibrant orange background creates a striking complementary contrast, making the pale dove luminous and ethereal a beacon of peace against the warmth of a setting sun.

Doves are among humanity's oldest symbols, appearing in art and mythology for over 5,000 years. In ancient Mesopotamia, doves were sacred to Inanna, goddess of love. Greek mythology associated doves with Aphrodite, while Romans saw them as emblems of Venus. The Biblical story of Noah's Ark features a dove returning with an olive branch, establishing it forever as the universal symbol of peace, hope, and new beginnings. This symbol was adopted by peace movements worldwide, most notably by Pablo Picasso whose 1949 lithograph "La Colombe" became the icon of the World Peace Congress.

Doves mate for life and share parenting duties equally, making them symbols of fidelity, devotion, and partnership across cultures. Their gentle cooing and graceful flight have inspired poets and artists for millennia. In Christian iconography, white doves represent the Holy Spirit, purity, and divine presence. Native American traditions view doves as messengers between the physical and spiritual realms. The dove's ability to navigate home from great distances symbolizes the soul's journey and our innate ability to find our way back to peace.
